DESCRIPTION: Approximate wingspan up to 35mm in length. One of the few orange Lacewings best identified by the brownish-orange and black colour, the lack of pale stripe on the thorax and pronotum and the simple tarsal claw without a swelling at the base. The wing venation is important and always needs checking against an appropriate key. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light. Can be found at rest on tree trunks. DISTRIBUTION: Widespread but localised and infrequent. HABITAT: Parkland, woodland, gardens especially where Oak and Pine are found. PERIOD: Late May to September. |
